Hair Transplant

The hair not only covers the head but provide a contrast frame for the face. A head full of hair is always equated with youth, surprisingly even if they turn gray. With a stressful lifestyle, exhausting commute, lack of sleep, and junk food habits, many young men and women seem to lose hair at an early age. Hair transplant is the logical option for most of them to get back radiant hair growth.

With hair transplant, nutritional supplements, and proper hair care, one can manage a head full of hair for many youthful years. The principle of hair transplant is redistribution. The typical male pattern hair loss starts at temples and then in the front hairline area. Both start receding before other areas of the scalp. But luckily, the hair in the back portion of the head stays for a long time. That semicircular crescent seen on the scalp's back has some spare hair to be transferred to the bald front portion. Despite the transfer, they stay faithful to their origin and do not fall, if provided with proper care.

A hair transplant can be done under local anesthesia that is injected to numb the scalp area. Then either a strip of hair or individual follicles is harvested from the skin on the head's back. If a strip is obtained, it is cut under a microscope to get follicles; the donor area is stitched up meticulously to avoid visible marks. If individual follicles are taken out with a punch, it is not necessary to stitch those tiny holes. They heal on their own. The obtained follicles are then transplanted in the front or bald portion at an adequate spacing. It is crucial to leave enough gaps so that each follicle survives and grows. After-care to maintain the graft is also important to prevent loss of newly grafted hair follicles and the old follicles. The hair transplant is a safe procedure when done by a trained surgeon who understands the safety limits. Going for a large number of follicles in one go can cause many problems that you may have read in the media about.

The transplanted hair needs to be taken care of with prescribed lotions and nutritional support. One should remember that some hair from transplanted areas may be lost later and will require a second transplant. Sometimes women with localised hair loss such as a wide parting or too large a forehead can also benefit from the hair transplant.
