Reverse the signs of aging and restore youthful
facial contours with Facelift Surgery!!
Many aging signs show up in the face and make one look years older than their actual age. If one is concerned about their sagging skin, deep wrinkles, facial hollows, & wrinkles, it all can be corrected with the facelift or rhytidectomy surgical procedure.
A facelift is a set of advanced plastic surgical procedures that seek to restore a youthful look to the face by partially reversing some of the changes which make a face look older, dull, and tired. This surgical procedure can completely transform and rejuvenate one's appearance. The treatment is also customized and performed in variations based on individual skin and associated goals.
Before starting with the procedure the surgeon provides the patient with anesthesia. In a complete facelift the incision starts from the hairline behind the sideburns, just in front of the ear, and runs down in front of the ear. Then it turns around the ear lobe and ends at the hairline behind the ear. The incision is hidden within natural skin folds, so it does not show up prominently later. Then the skin is lifted up, and the tissue present underneath is mobilized and pulled up towards the incision line and fixed. Then the skin is draped back in place and stitched. Any excess tissue and skin can be trimmed.
Indian patients have thicker skin. Their main concern is nasolabial folds. They can get benefit from lower lid blepharoplasty with midface lift carried out through incisions hidden in the lower eyelid crease. This also restores the droopy cheek and provides a more rejuvenated look.
Sometimes, a brow lift, blepharoplasty (repair of baggy eyelids), or fat transfer to the face can be combined with facelift operation for even better results.
The surgeon considers many factors before saying YES to the procedure.
First, the plastic surgeon listens to one's hopes and desires from the surgery. That's very much important because after listening to the patient desires, the surgeon will give them a realistic idea of how much improvement one is likely to see. The patient can also write about their desires on a paper when they go for their first consultation. This helps the doctor decide the plan of surgery to cover most of the desires and explain various options as well as limitations of each option.
Secondly, the plastic surgeon will get the patient medically tested and see whether they can safely undergo the facelift surgery. The patient must disclose all about their current treatment and past history of illnesses. This allows the surgeon to assess that one is really fit to be operated upon. It is better to stop smoking for at least 4 weeks prior to the procedure. Any blood-thinning medicines consumption should be stopped a few days prior to operation. BP and blood sugar control before and after the operation is essential.
A facelift surgery corrects sagging tissues of the face and neck. If one has jowls, deep facial wrinkles, and poor jawline definition, then one is ready for a facelift. A good test is to set the hands along the jaw's side, and one can pull the sagging skin towards the ears. If the sagging is extreme, one can be a good candidate for this surgery. Other signs include sagging neck tissues and muscle bands on the neck.

What is facelift and how does it help? Who are the experts in this surgery?
Face lift is a plastic surgery procedure that seeks to restore a youthful look to the face by partially reversing some of the changes which make the face look older.
Qualified plastic surgeons with M. Ch. and/or DNB degrees in the field of plastic surgery are the right people to get this surgery done from.
When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon, this excellent procedure can make the face look younger by about 5 to 7 years, and the effect lasts for a similar number of years!
What are the effects of ageing on the face? How does one look old?
To understand this surgery, we must first see what causes the face to look older as the years go by.
A) the skin loses its elasticity, thickness and suppleness
B) the pad of fat, sitting just under the skin and giving shape to your face, tends to become
thinner with age.
This is the result of daily wear and tear which is further worsened by the sun damage. Stress, pollution, Smoking, dietary deficiency, hormonal changes are some factors that add fuel to the fire.
Due to these changes, the skin, which is under constant downward pull due to gravity, starts sagging, especially around the eyes -producing baggy eyelids, and around the jaw, resulting in sagging jowls. The fold of skin from the outer side of the nose, running down along the outer side of the mouth, tends to become prominent and deep. Neck folds and dynamic wrinkles develop.
Facelift surgery corrects these changes. Ideally it can be combined with some procedure to rejuvenate the skin to get even better results! Finally, your plastic surgeon will also look at other factors such as stress relief and healthy nutrition, because beauty isn't just skin deep, it's closely related to your health…
Can I go for a facelift?
Your plastic surgeon will consider many factors before saying yes to the procedure.
First, she will listen to your hopes and desires from the operation. That's very important because you will then be given a realistic idea of how much improvement you are likely to see. Unrealistic expectations cannot be met! It is a good idea to list your desires in order of priority on a paper when you take your first consultation. This helps doctors decide on a plan of surgery to cover most of the desires and explain various options as well as limitations of each option. Everything has pluses and minuses.
Second, she will get you medically tested and see whether you can safely undergo surgery. You should disclose all your current treatment and past history of any illnesses. This will allow the surgeon to assess that you are really fit to be operated upon. It is better to stop smoking at least 4 weeks before the procedure. Any blood thinning medicines should be stopped for 4 days prior to operation. BP and blood sugar control before and after operation is essential.
How is the operation done?
The incision starts from the hairline behind the sideburns, just in front of the ear, and runs down in front of the ear, then turns around the ear lobe and ends at the hairline behind the ear. It is hidden within natural skin folks so does not show up prominently later. The skin is lifted up and the tissue underneath mobilised and pulled up towards the incision line and fixed. Then the skin is draped back in place and stitched. Any excess tissue and skin can be trimmed.
This is the complete facelift. Sometimes in younger people a smaller procedure through a short incision can be offered.
Indian patients have thicker skin. Their main issue is nasolabial folds. They benefit from lower lid blepharoplasty with midface lift carried out through incisions hidden in the lower eyelid crease. This also restores the droopy cheek.
Sometimes, a brow lift, blepharoplasty ( repair of baggy eyelids) or fat transfer from your own tissues elsewhere in the body to your face can be combined with facelift operation for even better results.
Will I feel pain during the procedure?
No, general anesthesia is used during the procedure. If instead of a full facelift, a limited procedure is planned, then it may be done under local anesthesia. After surgery some pain may be felt on first day, like any other operation. This can be controlled by medication as required.
What is the recovery period and downtime afterwards?
There is swelliing and bruising of the face that slowly subsides over 2-3 weeks. After 2 weeks, you will begin to look reasonably well with makeup, and after 3 weeks you may step out to social functions. However, this recovery period is variable. Some people experience prolonged bruising. The scar itself disappears gradually over 6 months to a year. Most of the facial swelling goes away by 2-3 weeks but complete disappearance of the swelling may take anywhere from 3-6 months.
Any Do s and Don't s after operation?
Most important is to wear a neck and chin strap as advised by the surgeon irrespective of your like or dislike. If you are wary of the strap ask the surgeon beforehand. The strap is essential for optimum recovery in reasonable time. Do not remove it often.
Do rest for a week at home, but start walking in your room early, as advised.
Do take medicines as prescribed to reduce the swelling and pain.
Do sleep with the head raised so as to decrease swelling faster.
Do follow up with the surgeon when asked to- usually on day 4 and 7.
Don't neglect your BP, sugar and any other existing issues.
Don't ignore stress and nutritional deficiencies that can make you age faster, so you will maintain results for longer!
Do not try to evaluate the results in less than 3 months.
Can any complications occur in this operation, and should I worry about them?
To be honest, any surgery, or, for that matter, any medical treatment can occasionally lead to complications. Then again, a simple daily activity like crossing a street can also result in an accident, so how do we deal with it? We cross the road with care and caution! Prevention is definitely better than cure! What you should worry about is getting operated upon by a glib talking, non qualified person who claims that there are absolutely no possible complications to think of… That's dishonest.
An experienced surgeon will meticulously search for and correct risk factors in your case. She will discuss with you in advance, possible complications and also ways how she will deal with them, should they occur. She will also inform you realistically how rare the complications actually are.
Bleeding under the skin
Blackening of a skin patch
Numbness of the face and neck
Twisted smile — very rare
Extremely rarely blindness.
Are some possible complications, and for each of them, the plastic surgeon has remedial measures that will be discussed beforehand. So choose your plastic surgeon wisely, and then place your trust in competent hands; every good surgeon wants only the best result and maximum safety for her patients!
